How we picked these

Every pick below links straight to its official download page or store listing, not to a catalog site, so you always land on the source. We only included games that are free to start playing right now with no purchase required, a free trial that later requires payment is not the same thing, and we say clearly where in-app purchases, ads, or an account are part of the deal. We have not run our own hands-on tests of these games; what we say about how each one plays is based on the publisher's own store listing and documentation.

From our studio

MapRaiders is a game we are building ourselves: real-world walking, running or cycling turns into territory strategy on a shared map, combined with a collectible card game with commanders and decks that you can play at home in a PvE/PvP arena. It is in open beta and free to play in the browser at the moment, but it is our own game, so it does not replace any of the ten independent picks below.

Frequently asked questions

Which of these need the least setup, no account, no download?

None of the ten above are entirely account-free, all involve at least a free publisher account since they are live-service or persistent-progress games. If you want no-account, no-download play, see our separate guide to free browser games.

Are any of these secretly pay-to-win?

Based on official documentation, Path of Exile, Team Fortress 2, Hearthstone and Chess.com describe their paid options as cosmetic, convenience or content extras rather than gameplay power. Genshin Impact's gacha system affects which characters you can use, though the free story path does not require it. Always check each game's own store page for the current terms, monetization can change with updates.

Is MapRaiders one of the free games on this page?

No. MapRaiders is made by the same company that publishes this site, so we never rank it. It is kept in its own labeled box rather than mixed into the picks above.
